Brings his friends all the more
Trash the house stain the floor
Scratch my face red raw

Looking at the trench

Stand up for my right
Fly a solid kite
People give me might
Power dizzy height

Make feel real proud
New friends, hot chick
Come inside, dirty trick

Says I badly treat her
She gets the kids

We’re very proud of or iron and steel making heritage. The railways, the ships and bridges around built the British empire(for good or bad) , contributing to the Britain we see today. We’re also proud of our grandparents labour movement to overcome those dreadfull working conditions. Having explored my family tree they most died either win their working lives or just after (one falling into at vat of moltern Iron aged 34). However that was then this is now. With todays health and safety regulations, employment law, human rights and all the other government restrictions, heavy industry is never going to come back here, not unless there was total collapse of the economy and famine, like in Ireland in the 1840’s. We can see that people here in Middlesbro have become so dependent on public sector jobs that they just can’t comprehend where else jobs can come from. It is possible for anyone able to work to make or provide a service that is of value to others around us. The problem is having to comply with all the regulations, red tape and government requirements, which sometimes can be a nightmare, so much so that its easier for us just to sit and winge about there not being any jobs provided for us!

GM Ice Cream

September 13, 2010

Do you like Haagen Dazs, Breyers and Baskin-Robbins ice-cream.
I do but never again.
These companies use milk from cows injected with Monsanto’s rBGH hormone.
Monsanto developed rBGH. Monsanto developed the artificial hormone and marketed it aggressively for years.
Cows injected with rBGH produce excess amount of IGF-1 in milk?
Does it matter if milk contains excess amounts of IGF-1?
” It decidedly did to the European Commission’s authoritative international 16-member scientific committee.
Their report said the excessive levels of IGF-1 found in the milk of cows injected with rBGH may pose serious risks of breast, colon and prostate cancer. ”

Haagen Dazs, Breyers and Baskin-Robbins ” continue to use milk from cows injected with rBGH, a hormone that’s been banned in Canada , New Zealand , Japan , Australia and all 27 nations of the European Union.
As if to add insult to injury, Haagen Dazs and Breyers have the audacity to tell us, right on the label, that their ice cream is ” All Natural.” Why are they allowed to sell it in Canada ?

How did Monsanto get control of our food industry and why are they allowed to sell it in Canada ?
They pay our politicians at election time just like all others who seem to have lost the fight over HST.
They, however keep winning through privatization.
The hands of these people are so deep into our pockets via the political process they own it.

The panorama broadcast of 6/Sept/10 reported how the Heart attack side effects of the drug Avandia , far outweigh its benefits to diabetes sufferers.
The program also reported how GlaxoSmithKline controlled and manipulated the “clinical trials” to get “better results”.
It also reported the closed practises of the BMA-British Medical Association ( a kind of doctors trade union) who operate in the interests of the drug companies and not the patients.

I have worked in elderly care homes and seen the vast number of unnecessary drugs given to elderly and sectioned residents.
In the interests of saving lives and not wasting money there are some measures the government can take.

1. As done in the USA, all pharmaceutical companies must publish how much they have paid to each UK doctor for selling their drugs.
2. There needs to be a independent British or EU organization which can heavily fine these drug companies.

Bill Gates urged AIDS activists on Monday to squeeze value out of every cent of funds to fight HIV, saying they could not expect donors to give more in hard times unless it was carefully spent.

Addressing 20,000 AIDS scientists, health workers and activists at an international conference in Vienna, the former U.S. President and the Microsoft founder said efficiency savings were vital in delivering HIV/AIDS prevention services and treatment to the countries hardest hit and at highest risk.

“The world is awash in troubles. It is easy to rail at a government and say … give us more money. But we also have to change the way we do what we do,” Clinton told the conference.

“If we’re going to make this case, they (donor governments) have to believe that we are doing our job faster, better and cheaper. Then we have the moral standing to go ask people to give us more money.”

Gates, a philanthropist whose Gates Foundation spends a large portion of its $34 billion fund on fighting AIDS, said efficiency was vital to be able to scale up access to AIDS drugs for the 15 million people who need them.

“We can’t keep spending AIDS resources in exactly the same way we do today,” he said. “As we … advocate for more funding, we also need to make sure we’re getting the most benefit from each dollar of AIDS funding and every ounce of effort.”

The head of the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria says it needs $20 billion in the next three years to sustain progress in tackling the diseases.

Out of the 33.4 million people who are infected with the human immunodeficiency virus HIV that causes AIDS, 5.2 million now get the drugs they need. But non-drug-related costs of treatment, such as hospital costs, labs, testing and monitoring, are more than twice the cost of the medicines.

Gates called for rapid scale-up of “cheap, effective, and easy to apply” HIV/AIDS prevention measures — such as male circumcision and prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV — which he said were so cost-effective “that in endemic countries it is more expensive not to pursue them.”

Yet in the case of male circumcision, while more than 41 million men in sub-Saharan Africa could benefit from it, only 150,000 have been circumcised in the past few years, Gates said.

Both Gates and Clinton also cited new studies showing that treating HIV patients with cocktails of AIDS drugs can dramatically reduce transmission of the virus to others.

Clinton’s whose William Clinton Foundation also works in the fight against AIDS, warned activists not to battle with President Barack Obama’s administration or other governments who he said were essentially on their side.

Hundreds of protestors marched through the Vienna conference on its opening day on Sunday to demonstrate against a pullback of funding for AIDS in the wake of a global recession.

Clinton said the campaigners should recognize Obama as their friend, and seek to work with him not against him.

“You have two options here, you can demonstrate and call the president names, or we can go get some more votes in (the U.S.) Congress to get some more money,” Clinton said. “My experience is that the second choice is a better one and far likelier to pay off. There is no way the White House will veto an increase in funding for AIDS.”

Remember the hoax dead swan in Dundee 2006. The circling helicopters, the wall to wall news coverage, the scientists and politicians all in a flap! This is what happens when £Billions are wasted on Swine flu (H1N1), bird flu (h5N1) and any other pandemic they might invent and sell to the world!

Far too much tax payer money was wasted on these exaggerated and flawed pandemic alerts. I am sure that the quangos concerned such as the Health Protection Agency will hope that the huge billion plus expenditure is now forgotten. They will also claim to have made their own enquiries and conclusions. However the public do need to bring them to account as to why the mistakes were made and how we can be sure they will not continue making them.

In March 2009 the Scientific Pandemic Influenza Advisory Committee (SPI) Previously: Scientific Advisory Group (SAG) advised to the government that in the UK alone a pandemic could affect up to 50% of the population and cause between 50,000 and 750,000 deaths. Why was so many of the committee members made up from people like Dr Alison Webster from GlaxoSmithKline who had vested interests for mass vaccinations and stock piling of antiviral drugs like Tamiflu.

The wider concern here is that just like the global warming industry (were there might be some truth), there is a £billion pandemic industry now feeding upon itself to justify more and more scientic reasons to market their own professions. And of course the news medias are equally quick to exploit public fears as they know in Dundee.

I am a contract worker occasinally on jobseekers allowance paying paye and I would like to start a small business as sole trader, but I hate the tax returns headach so much that I just will not bother.

I accept and understand that for taxation total income needs to be taken into account. The inland Revenue already have my PAYE why should I be made to duplicate it on a tax return! Let me just tax return my business and add it to the PAYE details you already have for me.r

LPG Explosive Risk!

December 24, 2009

The Forecourt of Esso Malhurst Garage on Yarm Road Stockton-on-tees was closed for 2 houses at 4pm Monday 21st December due to an explosive risk from a frost damaged LPG fuel tank from my Ford Escort car writes Chris Lipthorpe. A fire engine, ambulance and Police were called to the incident.

After filling my tank full and then releasing the LPG nozzle high pressure gas started leaking creating a huge steam cloud and loud hiss from my car. At first it did not detach fully so I quickly detach it to stop the leak, receiving a severe frost burn to my hand.

As a safety precaution the garage manager called the emergency services. It took at least an hour for the tank to release my 50 liters and £28 worth of LPG fuel.

My car had been parked overnight near Manchester where temperatures had dropped to well below freezing point. It is believed that the frost damaged both of the safety valves on my 10 years old ex-police car.

The Paramedics found my hand to be ok despite having my fingers go blue and numb for about 40 minutes. The paramedic also mentioned that I had high blood pressure, my reply was to day “I’m not surprised I’ve just had the fright of my life!”

My reason for wanting to publish this is as a caution to other LPG drivers. The Malhurst garage manager told me he had known this same type of incident occur at least twice in the last 7 years at other stations of his. I would not wish to discourage the use of LPG it is after all half the price of petrol and does not fluctuate in price like petrol does. One saving grace of this incident is that the LPG is unlikely to have ignited due to the cold temperature!

Last nights Horizon program presented by TV pig farmer celeb Jimmy Doherty purported to be a balanced “mission to find out if GM crops can feed the world” and “to find out the facts”

jimmy

Cry for Argentina

The program starts in Argentina, boasted as the GM capital of the world. He says that the GM crops are resistant to a particular herbiside but Jimmy does not mention that the soya bean genes have been patented by the big agrobusiness corporations (Monsanto, Dow, Dupont etc) and are specifically engineered to be resistant to that herbicide also made by the same company.

The Dodgy Scientific test

There is then shown a comparative test where “a weed killer” is shown to destroy the natural soya  but not the GM soya. The deception here is not to mention that this weed killer was engineered precicely to do that, to kill all plants without the gene-modified resistance.

He also failed to mention that it was Argentina’s economic crisis in the late 1990’s which made vast amounts of land available when bankrupted small farmers had to give up there holding for just a few cents in the dollar to the big corporate preditors.

Fooling the public

Jimmy then did a test of public opinion in the town center of Norwich to find that most people felt that GM was wrong and would not even try his GM pork sausages. However with a little charm to a few young  impresionable women he was able to convince them by saying that GM was better for the environment.

The GM direct actionists

He the follows some protesters taking direct action in Germany and hears from a concerned small farmer and bee keeper (the rapid decline bees is another related story!)

GM is natural.. Yeh right!

In the next section he tries to convince us that the technological GM of today is just a continuation of selective breeding that farmers have done for thousands of years. The difference being that this technology “tinkering” can for example to combine the antifreeze genes of a fish with a tomato.

In the Lab

Next he goes to the government funded john Innes laboratories

He makes out the scientific procedure as just a simple harmles technique enabling any gene to be put into almost any plant. Dressed in a white coat and goggles he drops a bacteria from a pipet onto the embyo of a barley seed. His excitement at creating a potential new life form is palpable.

The Counter Argument

Having interviewed over a dozen pro GM people in the program, it attemps to show balance by interviewing one who is againt. Lord Peter Melchett policy director of the soil association argues;

  • GM is an uncirtain imprecise risky technology
  • (the GM companies) do not know what they are doing
  • It is an uncertainty with tremendous risks attached to it
  • Thy reduce wildlife and pose risks to human health
  • Risks to every other type of farming wishing not to use GM
  • Like the introduction of rabbits by the Romans, once out you can never put them back
  • Farming methods need to change radically and GM plays no part in that

The US GM testimonies

Jimmy then seeks the tesimonies of varied US pro GM farmers, explaining that 80% of there crops are GM and they have been eating it for 10 years.

He ridicules the Zambian president for not acceping GM aid from America. The catch is that the herbicide is also required

Once a countries natural food and soil is contaminated by these products, the will for ever be dependent upon the corporations products.

He argues that crop yeild will increase and less pesticide is used.

But the diseased plants is due to the poor quality of the soil and wrong farming methods.
